Our recent trip to Northern Michigan reminded me why I love small town family restaurants. Eating out with children can be such a struggle. As a parent, I don’t want to McDonald’s to be their only idea of eating out, but dropping $50.00 for no one to eat is no fun either. We find the most successful experiences come from small town family restaurants. We have our favorites and I know every time we sit down everyone will eat and I will walk out feeling good about the money I just spent. One of our favorite places for breakfast is Grayling Restaurant in Grayling, Michigan.
Grayling Restaurant is a breakfast and lunch place. They open daily at 6:00am and close at 3:00pm. It is a small diner with delicious food and affordable prices. The best part for me is all five members of my family love it and gobble their food up like starving folks. Even better, I spend only slightly more than breakfast for five at McDonald’s for far better quality.
Little Man’s Favorite Meal:
The little guy is a mac & cheese with French fries type of guy. Who needs breakfast when you can have noodles with cheese sauce? The portion size is perfect for him and he often leaves with leftovers.
The Girls’ Favorite Meal:
Both of my lovely daughters are in love with the Kid’s Lumberjack. It comes with two eggs, hash browns, bacon or sausage, and toast. My girls are bacon fans – one dipped in ketchup, the other in syrup.
Omelettes for the Grown Ups:
My husband and I adore their omelettes. They have several amazing omelettes to choose from or you can make your own. My favorites are the Irish, filled with corned beef hash, onions, and Swiss cheese, or the Farmer’s, filled with Ham, onions, American cheese, and potatoes. My husband also loves the Irish, hold the onions, or makes his own with bacon and cheddar.
If you find yourself headed to Northern Michigan, I highly recommend you stop by Grayling Restaurant on your travels. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is everything you love about small town living. Traveling with children is an adventure. Let the small town family restaurants take the adventure out of eating, so you can save your energy for the real fun.
