The Essential Way to Conquer Fear with the Exceptional Power of Faith

It’s happening again. We have a situation, I have no control, and I am scared out of my mind. Fear and Faith can not occupy the same space, but we must take practical steps in order to move from the dread of Fear to the peace of Faith. It is not an easy task. Fear is powerful and easily takes control of our emotional being. When fear takes hold, it is time to double down on faith. Try these simple steps to refocus your energy.

Tell God How You Really Feel

God is not some dainty entity in need of protection. We are talking about an all-powerful, omnipresent spiritual being, there is no need to sugar coat your feels. As my good friend, Abby Norman, says in her new book You Can Talk to God Like That – The Surprising Power of Lament to Save your Faith:

What else is there to say sometimes except “Seriously, God?” Sometimes you have to tell God

what you really think, and what you really think is “If this is some kind of

joke, God, you are not funny.”

We are allowed as human beings to fully feel a myriad of emotions and they should be shared with our creator. If you are angry – tell God. You have absolutely had enough of this madness – tell God. Scared out of your ever-loving mind – tell God. It is only by first being honest with how we feel that we can move into a more positive space and trust God with our fear.

God Has Your Back

Now is the time to remind yourself that God promised to hold us during the hard times. The bible repeatedly tells us that God desires to care for us. In 1 Peter 5:7, it says “Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.”(NAB) Again in John 14: 27 Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”(NAB) The examples go on and on. Our God knows this world can be hard to navigate, but he continually promises to hold our hand and lead us to the other side of our hardships. We only need to place our worries before Him.

100% Give It to God

Now for the hardest part of the process, 100% give it to God to hold. So many things in our universe are out of our control and attempting to control them causes us fear and anguish, without any real solutions. We do not need to hold onto things we can not control. By giving them 100% to God we are releasing ourselves from the burden to find the answer. Let’s face it, we probably don’t have an answer anyway, so why not let God have a try. This release of fear gives us the opportunity to focus our power and energy on the parts of the situation we can make better. Not everything is your job. You take control of your part and let God have the rest.

It’ Hard, But Practice Makes Perfect

Be honest with God and trust that He will provide an answer. Keep in mind, God does not promise our lives will be without pain, hardship, or trouble. Giving your fear to God does not come with a money back guarantee for your preferred answer or outcome. What you get from God is a promise to never leave you alone to navigate the world. He will stand by your side through the good, the bad, the painful, and the joyful experiences of your life. Faith gives you power to navigate the waters, no matter where the boat leads. Stay in the boat. God promises to stay by your side through the entire journey.
